Georges and Anne are a couple of retired music teachers. They are in their eighties. One day Anne suddenly has a stroke in. The couple's bond is severely tested.

This film broke my heart, for a moment after watched this movie, I felt the world is empty. This film made me depressed. I rather call Amour as a film than a movie, because I define a movie as an entertaining stuff, but a film will make you depressed.
If you are a popcorn movie lover, I will give this film rate 2 of 10 for you, because I dont get this film entertaining. I am sure that you will fall asleep in first 30 minutes of the duration and wake up when the film already finish. Why did I say that?

There are many reasons in this film that will get you bored. The camera filmed almost the entire film  monotonously. There are rarely any move of the camera. It got worse when the camera stood still and just shot and nothing happenned. Next boring factor is everything happened in one place only: the house! Feel that is enough? There are more .,, It is either almost the entire film has no soundtrack unless some characters play the music( and I think we cannot call it a soundtrack, right?). There is one more, the emotion of this film looks so flat. There are many silence moments on this film.

But, why I gave 9 of 10 for Amour? . It is because, on the right hand and right eyes, those boring  factors , I have written above will become strong points instead of  weak ones. Through flat emotion, monotonous shoots, and no soundtrack exactly in strange way this film gives you the horror. That obviously doesnt mean supernatural things happen there but the horror arise from loneliness, fear of old age, and facing the death. I cannot explain more, I just feel that.
Aside from that, this film also gives you new experience of watching romantic film. No chessy romance like any common romantic movie, even the main characters are not a common cute, sweet, young couple. The main characters in Amour are an old man and an old woman. Nothing sentimental on this. Maybe, you even do not feel any romantic moments. But those are the strong points. You will find that love of this couple slowly along the flow of the story. You will feel the heartbreaking moments without sentimental and sad soundtrack, or camera's tricks.
And at the end, you will ask yourself about the meaning of Amour (Love).
It's funny on my last review I praised Jeniffer Lawrence's  acting and thought that she deserves the Oscar . But I am taking back my word now. Emanuelle Riva gave the best performance on this film. Her acting will make you believe that she got stroke attack in real.

Amour 9 of 10
