I am always excited about Indonesian movie
maker that his or her film succeeds to go abroad. That makes me proud of and
keeps my hope intact about the future of
Indonesian film. The Raid, Don't Talk Love, Lovely Man are good examples of
this. Since I watched The Raid, I will always anticipate the next movie that
has international scope but includes Indonesian's works. You can call it
nationalism haha.
So, V/H/S 2 is one of my anticipated movie. Yes, the only
reason why I wanna see this movie is just want to see 'Safe Haven' segment on
it. Safe Haven is the works of collaborated Timo Tjahjanto and Gareth Evans.
Timo is a unique and antimainstrem Indonesian director. His good debut is
'Dara' that gives its main lead actrees, Shareffa Danish, won an award from
Korean FilmFestival (I'm sorry if I'm mistaken). Timo usually works with his
brother,Kimo, but in V/H/S 2 he worked alone. Gareth Evans, well, not an
Indonesian director, but we Indonesian movie lovers thanks him so much because
his amazing work, The Raid. The Raid is an Indonesian movie even it was
directed by British director. Yeah, I feel right about Gareth Evans is British
outside, but pure Indonesian inside. Okay, stop talking about this.
Now, back to V/H/S 2. V/H/S 2 is anthology
horror movie. It has one main story, about 2 journalist (illegally) that seeks
the clues about the lost boy as a request by the boy's mother. They try to
explore a house that is suspected as place the kidnapped boy hidden. But there
they found some monitors already turned on. The one decides to stay for playing
the VHSs there, maybe she'll find some clues, and the other one exploring
around the house. There are 4 VHSs that the girl plays. Here they are:
1. Bionic Eye 2/5
A
man had an accident that hurted his left eye badly, so he needs to be surged.
Then a bionic eye has been implanted on his left eye. Everything is good until
he begins to see supernatural things..
This segment is good enough for making me
horrifed. I was shocked in many times. But, it became annoying because the same
tricks. It is scary but predictable. Also the story is so thin. But,thanks for
the free boobs. (oh God).
2. Ride in The Park. 2/5
A guy rides his bike fastly on off road
track. But then he finds a messy woman who cries for help. He tries to help,
but some weird-looking people walking toward him..
Now,the zombie time. It doesn't give you
horror, it just disgust you. And also it lost the frigthened athmosphere. How
can you be frigthened when you are the zombies?..
3. Safe Haven 3/5
Okay, let's talk about my this 'reason'
haha
Safe Haven is about a sect in Indonesia,
but it is absolutely a fiction sect. Some journalists want to have interview
with the leader of sect. They come to the house of sect and going around
surveying everything. Everything is normal, until the leader begin to speak to
his disciples through the loudspeaker..
It is undoubtedly the best segment among
the four. It has good perfomance by Epy Kusnandar as the leader of sect. It has
better plot than the other segments. Maybe my mind goes too far, but I think
this sect refers to Christianity thought. But also I don't get the reason. What
I like too, is the little twist at the closing scene.
4.Alien Abduction 2,5/5
This segment brings back the feeling like
the first one. It is scary, but same trick. The Alien's appearance is scary
enough, and the shocking sound works, and I wonder about the shaky camera. It
really needs big effort to do that. Oh, and one more, the life of the youth
here, really disgust me, draw more my attenton than the horror things.
Okay, don't forget about the main story.
What can I say when I see the end of this movie? It is just about HORROR FUN.,
nothing to explain more.
V/H/S 2 : 5,5/10
